A religious or spiritual ceremony can happen in just about any place. So don't let yourself be confined to a church ceremony. Some churches are gorgeous and may just be what you're looking for but certain props or items found at a church (crosses, pulpit, pews) can be brought into a space or area of your liking.
One of my ultimate favorite places in the twin cities that I think so many are scared to do because it's outside but is so so beautiful is The Lyndale Rose Garden in Minneapolis. This breathtaking garden is everything a bride can dream of and all of the flowers you could possibly want at your wedding without spending a fortune getting them. Peaceful large Fountains, many varieties of flowers, concrete walk ways run through this picturesque location right next to Lake Harriet.
Another out of the Box ceremony location is the Cowles Pavilion and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden placed in the perfect location of Minneapolis to have the sky scrapers in your backdrop. Modern Elegant Crispness of this venue will leave you a focal point amongst sheer beauty.

Mansions
There has been a historic venue boom in Minneapolis and many older mansions in the last 10 -12 years have been renovated. Some renovated just as newly as last year as well.
My First pick for newly renovated ballrooms is The Blaisdell.
This venue has actually just finished their renovation and completely an entirely modern ballroom in the middle of a classic Minneapolis historic home.

The home boasts a large ballroom with modern elements attached to a gothic historic home that would be perfect for cocktail functions. This location also has a perfect ceremony courtyard and carriage house with a loft so guests can look down as they watch you do your first dance.
https://www.thevandusenmansion.com 300 Clifton This venue probably has stayed the most true to it's historic nature of all of the venues available for intimate weddings in MN. However, you wont find dusty banisters lurking. This elegant bed and breakfast can host up to 60 for a smaller wedding, rehearsal dinner, or engagement party. Guests also have access to the nearby full service spa Ivey Spa Club.
http://site.300clifton.com/ Semple Semple Mansion has been kind of a standing beautiful venue for quite awhile. I recommend it often. With its chocolate like dark wood, billiards room, and wine cellar there is a lot for guests to enjoy about this space.
www.semplemansion.com Mansion is a library turned mod event space. With this venue you will find the look of a historic mansion but without the lower ceilings and closed off rooms that some historic venues are limiting you to.
www.mansionmpls.com Hutton House Think if Fixer Upper on HGTV built an event space, this is what it would be. Concrete floors, steel beams, and farm house style windows envelope this gorgeous property just a few minutes outside of downtown. A huge plus is there is free parking at this venue.
